What is BALADEVA
BRIN's Lake Model Visualizer (BALADEVA) is an online modelling platform that allows you to simulate lake water quality. Based on GLM-AED model, Baladeva aims to provide an overview of real processes in lakes in order to assist users in understanding the ecosystem. The General Lake Model (GLM) is a one-dimensional lake water balance and stratification model coupled with Aquatic Ecodynamics (AED) modelling library to support simulations of lake water quality and ecosystem processes. GLM-AED is an open-source community model developed as an initiative of the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON: https://gleon.org/) and in collaboration with the Aquatic EcoDynamics Research Group team at The University of Western Australia (http://aed.see.uwa.edu.au).
GLM calculates water balance, surface heat exchange, vertical mixing and inflow-outflow dynamics. The model requires meteorological information, i.e. air temperature, shortwave radiation (SW), wind speed (Wind), relative humidity (RH) and rain for simulate lake water balance and thermal stratification dynamics. In this web simulation we let users to adjust some of the meteorological parameters to visualize changes in lake thermal stratification.
AED library module allows users to simulate lake water quality in the GLM. AED covers most aquatic biogeochemical processes including nutrient cycle, oxygent dynamics, phytoplankton - zooplankton dynamics, sediment/soil biogeochemistry etc. Here, users may adjust some of the internal loads of parameters by setting up values of sediment oxygen demand (Fsed Oxy), releases of ammonium (Fsed Amm) and phosphate (Fsed Frp) from the sediment.
